Congratulations Anissa!!!

I have big news to share! Would you like to hear it?

My best friend started wearing Hijab!!! Congratulations Anissa!!! We are very proud of you and we hope you will have a great time wearing Hijab like we do! Now it's time to welcome you to HijabiTopia. Yay for Anissa!! I think you are the bravest to make this decision! So come on everyone write a comment and let's make her feel proud!!!!!

Here are some pictures of me and Anissa ice-skating, and at the mall. We are both wearing Comfijabs :-)

Janna(aka Elif Kavakci's daughter) for HijabiTopia

Anissa is a figure skater. She competes professionally. She also teaches me some cool moves :-) (I'm wearing my black comfijab, Anissa is wearing her white comfijab)

Anissa and I are at the mall waiting for Scrooge the puppet to come out and give us a good laugh. (I'm wearing the navy comfijab, Anissa is wearing her black comfijab)

I love you Anissa!

(When Anissa's parents came to pick me up, and I opened the car door, I noticed that Anissa and I were twinkies. It was unplanned, but we are both wearing the comfijab in silvery gray :-)

I can't believe we are going to ice-skate around that big tree!

Wow, all this action is making us thirsty... Slurp :-)

After all that ice-skating and shopping we were exhausted! We decided to get a nice massage. Anissa wasn't shy about kicking off her boots. And I just closed my eyes and relaxed. :-)

Spark it up!

I love this festive season. The lights, the fancy clothes, the decorations... It's such a happy time. My favorite part of these winter months are the all over sparkle

The gold, silver and metallic shoes. The rhinestone accessories, bib necklaces, shiny bracelets, oversized rhinestone rings, sequined tops and bottoms, crystal embroidered bags, it's all about the bling, bling, bling!

The sparkle trend lightens up our dark hued winter wardrobe. When applying this trend, you need to stick to the "less is more" rule. Because anything that has bling catches the eye instantly, you don't want to go overboard and blind your audience. LOL. Therefore, the best way to make your point is by choosing one item, or concentrating on one area and applying it there. For example, if you are wearing black from head to toe, your metallic silver pumps will sparkle like there is no tomorrow! Do not add an extra necklace, or shiny purse or anyother accessory.

If you love bib necklaces, you can again choose an outfit that is black from head to toe, including your shoes, and add the sparkle around your neck.

Or maybe you have an oversized rhinestone ring that you would like to wear. Then only wear your ring to apply this trend, and keep the rest of your outfit simple, preferably single tone.

Here are some examples of the sparkle in the air:

Girls Night Out!

We recently caught up with our bff's this past weekend at our favorite restaurant Noodlewave!

Here comes Nicole bearing gifts! "Ho ho ho!" she says! LOL! JK!

I think we started going a little crazy taking pics. This nice patron dining beside us volunteered to take our pics! We heart Noodlewave! Even the other diners are just SO nice! Here's the money shot!

Fabulously stylish Mary also joined us a bit later, but by then I think we were all pictured out, so unfortunately I didn't get any good pics of her with us. Sorry Mary! But I know she won't mind too much, because she'd rather have me post a good picture of her than a not-so-good pic. Right Mary?

It was so great to catch up after so long. Alhumdulillah for good food, amazing friends, and intellectual conversation. What a perfect end to a long week! Masha'Allah!

SO cape-able!

It's that time of the year where the weather is cold, the air is crisp, and all I want to do is lounge around in my sweats and drink hot chocolate. Well, that could be a problem for several reasons. I'll probably turn into a couch potato, and I wouldn't want that. So what's the solution you ask? Why yes, it's CAPES TO THE RESCUE!

What better way to feel all warm, cozy, and comfortable, than to don a cape! Not only that, but the capes today are oh-so-CHIC!

Here are some fabulous capes that we love:

Ofcourse we can't forget the Little Red Riding Hood Cape:

Best of all, these are all hijabi-friendly winter options that are long, flowy and not figure-hugging. Besides, what better way to enjoy all those yummy desserts by having your tummy perfectly tucked away :-).

Hijabified Looks on The Runway @Rick Owens!

We really like Rick Owens's designs. His women's ready-to-wear as well as his men's (CLICK). Yup you heard me right.
His clothes are very modest. Edgy with style, chic with quality. They are the type of clothes a woman who has a strong presence, confidence, and is 100% modest would wear.

He has several stores in Manhattan. Even when you walk in to one of his stores, you are in total awe with the space, decorations and the professionalism of the sales staff.

Check out his Fall 2011 looks straight off the runway. You'll see what we're talking about...

Elegant, Stylish Hijabi

Most of you have probably heard of Rouba Houli who has been on the red carpet getting media attention. She is a beautiful hijabi the wife of Australian football player, midfielder, Bachar Houli. She accompanies her husband to events where "less is more" and women often wear backless, flashy dresses. She dares to stand out in her stunning Islamic attire. In one of her interviews, when asked how she feels about being the only one in hijab on the red carpet, here is what Rouba says:

"It's up to them what they wear. I'll definitely be covered. A lot of people have said to me about the Brownlow, 'What will you wear?'. I'll wear a dress and I'll fix my scarf nicely. I'll just be proud of who I am and what I believe in so (seeing others in daring outfits) wouldn't affect me in any way."

Claire Harvey of The Daily Telegraph wrote a wonderful article on her opinion of Rouba's hijab style. It's a must read that we wanted to share with you.

Rights of Women in Islam

As a postlude to our earlier post on Wednesday, we wanted to show you a Super Hijabi in action and share with you a video of Dr. Merve Kavakci's speech about Rights of Women in Islam at the ICNA conference. Dr.Merve is wearing her KAVAKCI COUTURE "Super Hijabi" cape jacket, specially designed by her sister Elif. Very cute, don't you think?  She looks like she's ready to take off to her next location. :-)

If you would like to follow Dr. Merve Kavakci or read more about her in detail you can visit her site

Congratulations to 2 Super Hijabis!!!!

As most of you know  The World's 500 Most Influential Muslims, 2011 edition has been recently released.

Amongst them are 2 very special Super Hijabis whom we have feautured on our blog. We would like to send a special congratulations to them both for being the best hijabi role models!!

My lovely sister Dr. Merve Kavakci & our dear friend, Member of Brussels Parliament, Mahinur Ozdemir

The 500 Most Influential Muslims
Social Issues (p.134)

These individuals address various social issues such as health, education, women’s rights, the environment, human rights and conflict resolution.

United States

Kavakçi, Prof. Dr Merve

Merve Kavakçi is a lecturer on culture and international affairs at George Washington University. In 1999, she was barred from a position in the Turkish Parliament for refusing to remove her hijab. She is an important symbolic figure for the headscarf issue in Turkey and promotes Muslim women’s rights at events all over the world, criticizing Turkey’s anti-Islamic policies. Kavakçi is also a Hafiza of the Qur’an.

Ozdemir, Mahinur [new]

Ozdemir is a young politician and the first hijab-wearing Member of Parliament of any European country. She was sworn in to the Belgian parliament, while wearing a headscarf. The event garnered mass interest in Turkey, where in 1999 Merve Kavakçi was denied the right to take her oath of office because of her hijab. Ozdemir is of Turkish origin and is a member of the Francophone Christian Democrat party.

Natsiria's Style

Remember Natsiria from our earlier posts? CLICK
She was recently in Manhattan visiting and I made sure to catch up with her since I hadn't seen her in a while. Natsiria is a revert to Islam. I will have to share her story with all of you one day, once I get the detailed version :-). She is such a lovely girl. She is originally Puerto Rican. As you can tell she is drop dead gorgeous mashallah and is very sweet, funny and classy at the same time. Here is what she wore to our outing on the Upper East Side :-)

What I love about Natsiria's style is that it's conservative, simple, elegant, and trendy at the same time. The fact that she chose solid colors but mixed different neutrals together, made her look very appropriate for her young age. Her blouse is very classic, yet her blazer is a bit funky with the small polka dot patterned lining. Her nude purse completes her outfit. I love her lace up peep toe oxford high heels. They are the trendiest shoe of the season. What I also love about Natsiria's look is that she is actually wearing make up but has not over done it. She has lined her deep green eyes with liner and mascara, and just added a touch of lipgloss. Her face looks fresh and isn't drowning in make up. I applaud Natsiria for her clean cut, modest look.

Trending: Feathers

Here a chick, there a chick, everwhere a CHICK, CHICK...

Well, maybe it's not Old McDonald's chick, it could be a Thanksgiving Turkey, or a Duck Duck Goose, we leave the creativity up to you. No matter which bird you pick, make sure you walk away with some feathers for the trend of the season :-)
