Mary wearing the Comfijab (KAVAKCI COUTURE exclusive hijab)
Well, we would like to share some exciting news about her with you.
I met Mary through Nicole over the summer in Dallas. Mary took her shahadah (became Muslim) in February 2010. She was married to her husband who is from Pakistan in March.
Mary has been mashallah wearing hijab since this summer. While Nicole, Nazreen, Mary and I were all spending time together, we would often talk about hijab and different ways of wearing it, etc.
The first time I met Mary, I thought she was absolutely gorgeous. The first time I saw Mary in hijab, I was just breathless. With hijab, she was twice as beautiful, simply stunning!!! Because hijab had now framed her pretty face, it made her features jump out! You could see her pretty green eyes, her smooth skin and her precious smile. Every time I saw Mary, she was wearing a different hijab style and still looked like she just walked off the runway.
Yet, the fact of the matter is, like any new hijabi, Mary was trying to get used to her new style. It hasn't been that easy though. Just like all of us, Mary has had her struggles in worrying about how others would perceive her at work and elsewhere.
Mary recently had her high school reunion. Going there she was quite concerned about being around her old friends in her new look. How were they going to react? Were they even going to recognize her? Would they accept her for who she is now?
Lots of questions ran through her mind. Now what?
Mary knew that this was something she would have to face as a hijabi. She could run into people from her past, people who used to know her as a non-Muslim any day. But now she had changed, a change for the better. A change for God. And some small reunion wasn't going to stop her from being concerned about her look.
Guess what happened? Mary had the best time at her high school reunion. Her friends were not only accepting but they also loved her style.
Mary said she got lots of complements from her friends who said they would love to look like her.
One of her friends told her, "You were always the stylish one!"
And that's not all. They had an awards ceremony at the reunion. A competition for different talents. You will not believe who was voted, the most stylish? Yup you guessed it! Mary Drennan, for her unique hijabi style!!!
We congratulate Mary on her courage. Wearing hijab is definitely a struggle, but a beautiful worthwhile struggle.
Mary is a perfect example of that.
We love you Mary, and we think you are a stunning hijabi!

Mary you look beautiful and I agree have a great sense of style. This blog is juck rock'n more and more all the time!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Mary! May Allah (swt) keep us all strong with our hijabs. I was wondering if you had a picture of the comfijab, without a hat or anything on top. I want to see what it looks like alone. Or is it not meant to be worn alone?
ReplyDeleteSalaams Salwa,
ReplyDeleteI am working on doing a post about the comfijab in the near future. It can be worn by itself. Infact it's so practical that my daughter wears it every single day to school! Just stay tuned :-)
Alhumduliallah Mary I agree Mashallah you are beautiful...and so happy to know you had a great time at your reunion :-)
